Chapter 19
1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and all that he had killed—all the prophets with the sword. 2 And she sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "Thus may the gods do, and thus may they add, for at this time tomorrow I will set your nephesh as the nephesh of one of them." 3 And he saw that and arose and went for his vital life force and came to Beersheba, which is in Judah, and left his boy there. 4 He went a day's journey into the wilderness. And he came and sat down under one broom tree. And he asked his nephesh to die. And he said, "Enough now, LORD. Take my nephesh, for I am not better than my fathers." 5 And he lay down and slept under one broom tree. And behold, this angel touched him and said to him, "Rise, eat." 6 And he looked, and there was a cake of hot stones at his head and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down. 7 And the angel of the LORD came a second time and touched him and said, "Arise, eat, for the way is too great for you." 8 He got up and ate and drank, and the strength from that food sustained him for forty days and forty nights until he reached the mountain of God, Horeb. 9 And he came there to the cave and lodged there. And behold, the word of the LORD came to him. And he said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
